[u][size=18]Falling For The Underworld[/size][/u] - Chapter One

Was there really a reason for his birth? Did anything matter to his friends or family? Would they care if he died, or suddenly disappeared? Would it even faze them? So many questions were spinning around his head, as the cold wind whipped at his hair and face. Why was he here? Did he have the courage to do it this time? Would he be able to take the wild leap, to plunge from the rooftop to his certain death?

He had stood in this same place so many times before, and each time he shied away from it, every time he closed his eyes, and took the step back. Because deep down he was afraid of death. And even though he felt that had no reason to live, he couldn’t give up yet. But today his spirits were unusually low, after yet another scathing remark from the woman he loved, and another beating from his crazed mother.

Did he have what it took? Could he really do it? He heard a bird cry from somewhere nearby, and wondered how it felt, to live this high up every day; free, and in control of your own life. Saline tears fell from his ivory skin, as he shook with the sobs of long held back tears. Then he did it, he took that step; walked on air, flew from his restraints, out, into the night.

He felt the wind whip at his hair, and the bitter cold of it stung his cheeks as he fell, for what seemed an eternity. Then blackness encased him, and he knew no more.

The first thing he became aware of was the silken feel of sheets atop him, and a feather soft mattress beneath him. His eyes seemed glued together, and he was forced to stay with them shut, as he slowly became aware of his surroundings. He could hear hardly anything, except the rustle of the sheets as he moved, and the soft patter of feet coming towards him. Was this heaven? Some sort of afterlife? He didn’t know.

Forcing his eyelids open, he gazed around the huge bedroom chamber, noticing with some concern that it seemed to be hollowed out of a cavern, as the walls were rough stone, and the ceiling hung with stalactites. The bed he was in was huge, and hung with crimson curtains. It was painting a despairing picture in his mind. Was this some kind of hell? Was he about to be thrown into burning fire and made to account for all his sins?

He was startled out of his thoughts by the arrival of the person he had heard earlier. His eyes grew wide as he took in their appearance. It was a tall man, but not human. His hair was black as coal, and short at the top, but the bottom layers falling in long strands down his back. His ears were pointed, and the ivory glint in his smile gave away the tiny fangs. His shirt was odd; looking like a cross between a cape and a t-shirt, it was short sleaved, and deepest black, the collar flicked up. It was buttoned closed across his chest, but left open below that, and it swept down the rest of his thin figure, stopping at the back of his knees. His pants were black and tight fitting; tall, many buckled boots adorned his feet. His bare arms were well muscled, and his skin was beautifully tanned, his nails dangerously sharp and painted black; or perhaps that was their natural colour.

He grinned down at the boy on his bed, one delicate eyebrow raised. “Oh…so you’re awake human?” he chuckled quietly, “I’m Epsilon.” He swept his arms wide, indicating the large, cavernous room, “and this…this is the underworld!”

I would also like to say, that this forum is just temporary until we get our real website up and running. There will be a proper site, and when there is the fiction will be moved from the forum, and set up with a new format and correct reviewing options.
